Description of Project:
When
J. Ben Bourgeois calls to ask if we can assist him with the production
of an event, I know he will be thinking out of the box. The closing
night party for the Siebel Users Conference was no exception. Our design
and production team did not have a box to be confined by. As a matter
of fact, we were working in one of the most cavernous spaces in the
world. The dirigible hanger at NASA's Moffett Field has a ceiling height
of over 200 feet. There are virtually no limitations on what can be
built inside. See
a Quicktime movie (756kb) of this event
production.
We were not without
our challenges, however. We needed to come up with a design that would
transform the drafty WWII era building into a
sophisticated
environment where Siebel systems could host an important dinner for
3500 of their most important customers. Our solution involved manipulating
the guest's perspective views from various points throughout the hanger.
When they first entered through the massive doors, a long dark and narrow
tunnel restricted their field of view. When they emerged from the tunnel
we foreshortened their field of view by creating a giant entrance gateway
dominated by a 30-foot diameter sphere ablaze in moving lights. As the
guests passed through the gateway we gave them the overwhelming wide
angle view of the party with huge planets suspended in mid air and five
giant projection screens raising over 120 feet from the floor. This
was certainly a view that the guests of Siebel will never forget.
